We had the opportunity to partner with Share Energy, Northern Ireland’s newest electricity provider, to build a fully automated CRM and digital platform from the ground up. This cutting-edge system is now revolutionising the energy market, helping Share Energy to deliver on their promise of sharing their profits and putting their customers first.
Our collaboration with Share Energy was driven by their vision to transform the energy sector and empower customers to reduce their electricity bills. To achieve this, we deployed a team of 5 to 10 experts - scaling resources as needed - who worked tirelessly over a 2 year period to ensure that each feature of the system was built with precision and care to include:

We developed a fully automated CRM system for Share Energy that streamlines the management of sales prospects through a flexible sales workflow. The system facilitates seamless customer onboarding, ensuring that customers are placed on the correct tariff, have appropriate payment configurations, and meet all regulatory requirements. It also offers customer support via a ticketing system, allowing for the recording of calls, emails, and reminders. With comprehensive account history tracking all changes, this solution lays the groundwork for an efficient customer experience and positions Share Energy as a tech-forward leader in the energy industry.

At the heart of the project is a billing and financial system designed to handle various critical tasks, such as generating accurate customer estimates from historical usage, managing rebilling when customer meter reads change and handling mid-month prices changes. The system was designed to scale to 10’s or even 100’s of thousands of customers by incorporating continuous daily billing and automatic reviewing of generated bills. Bills are a key interface point with the customer and we developed a templating engine that was capable of generating visually stunning bills while at the same time can displaying content tailored to each particular customer.

We developed the Share Energy website to provide a seamless experience for customers looking to switch their electricity provider. Integrated directly with the CRM system, the website allows users to easily switch to Share Energy from other providers in just a few clicks. Additionally, customers can upload their meter readings, purchase top-ups, pay bills, and even connect with the Share Energy support team through a live chat feature. The website is fully optimized for self-service, offering a smooth digital experience that simplifies energy management and ensures quick, efficient service interactions.

This feature allows customers to refer friends with ease, offering both the referrer and referee a monetary reward upon successful sign-up. The automation streamlines the entire process, tracking referrals, validating new sign-ups, and applying the rewards directly to customers' accounts and bills without any manual intervention. This system not only incentivizes growth through word-of-mouth marketing but also enhances customer satisfaction by making the referral process quick, transparent, and rewarding for all parties involved.

One of the standout features is the self-service customer portal. The portal allows customers to view their current usage, pay bills online/purchase top-ups, access payment histories 24/7 and previous communications issued by Share in addition to meter read submissions.

We developed custom iOS and Android mobile apps for Share Energy, both fully integrated with the CRM system to offer customers a seamless, on-the-go energy management experience. Through the app, users can easily manage their accounts, upload meter readings, top-up their accounts, pay bills, and monitor their usage in real-time. With its user-friendly design and real-time syncing with Share Energy's CRM, the app ensures that customers have complete control over their energy services, anytime and anywhere with the most up to date insights on their Account.

We developed a custom Sales Rep app for Share Energy, designed specifically for door-to-door sales representatives to streamline customer sign-ups. The app integrates directly with Share Energy's CRM system, allowing reps to input customer information and complete sign-ups on the spot. Built-in prompts and advice help guide the sales process, ensuring reps follow best practices and procedures during their interactions. Additionally, the app features audio capture capabilities to record sales discussions, providing valuable data for quality management and compliance monitoring. This ensures a professional, transparent experience for both sales reps and customers while enhancing oversight and training opportunities for the team.

The system includes features for managing Direct Debit payments and refunds, handling failed payments, and validating bank card details. It also integrates credit card transactions with 3D Secure for added security. Customers can top up via keypad through mobile, the website, or PayPoint, and the system provides comprehensive audit reporting.

The API integrations we implemented between Share Energy's systems and key third-party providers like Bottomline, Secure Meters, NIE, and Power To Switch. These integrations allows for the automation of critical processes, including customer switching to Share from other providers, meter reads, eliminating the need for manual input. By streamlining data exchange and ensuring real-time synchronization with NIE, our system enables a more digital approach to electricity management, allowing customers to receive timely and accurate updates on their switch over and with their bills while enhancing operational efficiency for Share Energy with reduction in manual communication with NIE and the Customer.

Share Energy’s goal is to source as much electricity as possible from Renewable sources, such as solar, wind and BioGas. However electricity generated from renewable sources can be variable. Our data scientists developed Neural networks that can predict generation days ahead allowing Share Energy to accurately trade in the electricity Market.
From the outset, izon and Share Energy adopted a collaborative development approach. We worked closely with their stakeholders and end customers to understand their needs and challenges. Our agile framework enabled us to adapt swiftly to changes, ensuring that every feature was developed with both functionality and user experience in mind.
By fostering a self-organized team environment, we were able to deliver high-quality results at every stage. Frequent communication with Share Energy's team and core stakeholders allowed us to stay aligned with their goals, while ensuring we met all contractual requirements and milestones.
Introducing a project of this magnitude is no small feat. The success of this digital transformation hinged not just on the technology but also on change management and user adoption. Our agile approach allowed for iterative development, with continuous feedback loops and quality testing, ensuring that the system was intuitive for both Share Energy's team and their customers.
